Sandakan (Sabah) Malaysisk Borneo - Part 4/4 * d. 13/11-2011

* Sandakan --> Kota Kinabalu *
In the afternoon we had to fly back to KK at 14.30 am., but first it was time to look a little more on wildlife along the Kinabatangan River, and also we had to look at an ancient Chinese temple 'Puh Jih Syh' laying quite high, with fine views over the bay and Sandakan town.

Info :

Borneo's pygmy elephants are an endangered species, it's believed, that there are only approx. 2000 individuals back in nature. It has first in the year 2003 been separated from the (also endangered) Sumatra pygmy elephants, which there are approx. 3000 back of in nature...

We left the Sukau River Lodge after breakfast, again to move up the river and back towards Sandakan. On the way we looked for different animals, and again we made a little stop at Abai River Lodge to switch boat, before we took the last piece northward towards Sandakan.

In Sankakan we looked at a large market where all kinds of fish, fruit and vegetables could be purchased. Then we went to visit a Buddhist Chinese temple, which stood high above the city, with a stunning view. So we left our guide 'Junior' for good, and then we ate a good lunch at a nice hotel in Sankakan. Then we also said goodbye to the Dutch couple who had been with us the past few days. We were then picked up by car, and driven a short ride to the airport. We flew towards Kota Kinabalu again with AK6093 at 14.30 am., and landed in KK an hour after. Here we were picked up and driven to our beach hotel "Beringgis Beach Ressort", where we stayed for the last 5 days.
