Mangrove & Irrawaddy Dolphin Cruise

Info :

Mount Santubong north of Kuching is 810 m high.

This day we were going on a Dolphin River Cruise trip up the river Santubong. We went to flodudspringene 25km north of Kuching city, where we could try to find the elusive Irrawaddy dolphins , which are found only here in Borneo. The weather was again fine with sunshine and above 30 degrees. We were again picked up at the hotel by a chauffeur and our tour guide around 9 o'clock, and the trip lasted approx. 4 hours. We saw a lot of different animals in the mangroves along the rivers, including Mudskipper, crocodiles and many birds, but unfortunately no dolphins .... :-(

We also visited a local village on the trip, and got an impression of how the local lived here.

When we got back to Kuching, we walked around in town and a stroll along the port promenade. The weather had all day stayed fine, and we would not experience many of these days on the trip. We went later on in the afternoon, to see a Chinese temple "Tue Pek Kong" from the year 1843, which lay just opposite our hotel.

The shops in China Town is securely locked after hours!

Lovely weather for sailing on the river. Unfortunately, no dolphins, but we saw so many other things ...

The conclusion of our stay in Kuching, was very positive. A clean city, despite the fact that there are some local slums, but one sees no beggars. It was possible here to eat well - and very cheap. The street kicthens can be recommend, if one can exclude from our definition of hygiene ...
