Kota Kinabalu (Sabah) Malaysisk Borneo - Part 1/1 * d. 8 + 9/11-2011

* Kuching --> Kota Kinabalu *

We flew to Kota Kinabalu which is located in the northern part of Borneo (Sabah), where we had to stay overnight 2 nights in this round. After a comfortable flight at about 1 1/2 hour starting from Kuching at 13.40 pm, we landed in KK airport at. about 15.05 pm. We were again picked up here by a driver who drove us a short ride of approx. 20 min. To our hotel in the middle of KK.
Info :
Mount Kinabalu is Borneo's highest mountain - 4095 m.

Watch nice video with lots of info about Sabah

We arrived at our hotel "Cititel Express" and was staying in a nice room on the 8 floor, with a fine view towards the water. We used the afternoon to walk around the waterfront, but as the weather pulled up to a storm, we walked back towards the center, to find a place to eat before it broke loose.

We found a covered square with different restaurants, and chose to eat at "Suang Tain seafood restaurant" Here you could even pick out the fish or shellfish to eat, which was then captured and preserved. The place was Chinese ruled, and the impression here was a bit noisy and messy, but the food was quite good (though somewhat more expensive than we were accustomed to from Kuching). The storm had now broken loose outside, and we were happy to sit in a dry place and eat. The rain stopped  fortunately quickly, and after dinner we could take a look at the city without getting wet.

We found  a center with many interesting shops, but since it's been a little late, most were now closed, and we agreed to stop by here again the next day.

Next day on 9/11 we were on the "Island hopping" where we had to visit two islands, Sapi and Manukan which is part of the " Tunku Abdul Rahman Park " . We again got picked up at the hotel after breakfast, and run down to the marina at Sutera Habour Resort where we rented snorkel, mask and flippers. We went first to the Sapi which is one of the smaller islands, but certainly very nice. After snorkelling around some time, and gone a little trip into the woods, we had a lovely lunch consisting of fish, vegetables, rice etc.

Then we went to Manukan, which was a lot bigger than Sapi. Here were also both a kiosk and several houses as administrative experience and be hired. We snorkeled again round in the beautiful water, where the most beautiful tropical fish swam around us most of the time. Unfortunately I had no waterproof camera, so I therefore lacks some pictures of this :-( ... fortunately other have been recording a little from there : Link

When we got back in KK again, we relaxed a little of the hotel. Later we went for a walk into the center where most shops were closed the day before, and shopping different things. Here we also found a Chinese restaurant where we ate well for little money. Afterwards we went back to the hotel again, because next day we were very early off with flying towards Sandakan ...
