So we have come to Kuching (Means: The
City of Cats).
It is the southernmost major city in
Sarawak, which is one of the two states in Borneo.
The flight lasted approx.
1 hour and 45 min.
When we arrived it was raining very
heavily, and this continued until the evening.
We had to stay overnight in Kuching for
4 nights, and we shall on some trips in the area.
The next day 5/11 we started with a River Cruise, where we should look more closely at Kuching and surrounding area. |
We were staying at our hotel "Harbour
View" which was of much better standard than we came from in KL.
The hotel here was very Chinese
influenced, and the staff most Chinese.
We ate dinner at a small local
restaurant, that we had been recommended by the driver who picked us up
at the airport.
The food here was really good, prices
were very low, and cold drinks just amazing! Next day on 5/11 we were picked up at our hotel after we had eaten breakfast, and driven a very short walk to the river port promenade. Here was a boat with boatman ready to take us on a trip down the river, along with our guide. The weather was a little hazy, but was somewhat better now that we got a little up the river. It was a nice trip, where we got explained more about the city and the various buildings and so on. We also saw the local people fishing and some different birds, fish and a single crocodile. After the trip we walked a little around and looked at the city, and especially at the shops in China Town. Here in Kuching the atmosphere was much calmer than the one we felt in KL, and it was quite nice here, to walk around looking at things, without constantly being hailed with various deals! There was also quite charming along the promenade, and here we also found a nice place where you could get both good food, and delightful drinks ;-) When we were back at the hotel again, we could get a little on the internet, but the connection was somewhat unstable, and you had to stay at very precise locations in our room in order not to fall off ... For example. sitting on the floor in the corner by the front door, there was the signal fine :-( ( |
You could buy some very colorful cakes everywhere on the streets - a kind of sponge cake ... |
There were many fine and beautifully carved wood furniture in the shops here. |
